The Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) is a Greek National Institute within the Centre for
Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), for the promotion of Transport Research and Transport Policy support, the first of its kind in Greece. It focuses on
applied research in all fields of Transport, with the aim to provide inputs for, among other fields, policy formulation, documentation of major trends and
impacts in the field of Transport, formulation of operational rules and procedures, improvement of the operation and management in the various Transport
modes, etc. One of HIT's sectors is the "Documentation and Databases" sector which is dedicated to data collection, and the development, support, and
maintenance of databases in the field of Transport in Greece.
LMS will subcontract HIT as it is the only specialised Greek National Institute in Transport Research. HIT responsibilities within the project will be to
provide Greek accident data and perform the required cross-tabulations for WP8 of the project. HIT, as a governmental institute on road safety, has the
required permission to access and use the national data on road accidents, as maintained by the Greek Ministry of Public Order. HIT has also access to an
in-depth database of a private traffic assessor company. Since permission to use the Greek data is required, it was chosen to include HIT as a
subcontractor in the project, since it already has such a permission.
HIT will bre represented by Villy Portouli.
