BASt Bundesanstalt für Strassenwesen (BASt), is a technical and scientific institute responsible to the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and
Housing (BMVBW). BASt acts as scientific advisor to the Ministry on technical matters and transport
policy. Its task is to work on the problems arising from the various relationships between man, motor
vehicles, highways, the environment and society. It plays a leading role in the formulation of drafted
legal requirements and standards.
Research is conducted in fields of special interest, particularly those
which owing to the nature and scope of research project cannot be taken over by other research
organisations, or if there are special reasons for heaving research carried out at a federal level.
Claus Pastor is the BASt responsible within the project. At BASt he is responsible for the In Depth
Accident Studies and Analysis. He is also a member of several EEVC working groups representing
German Ministry of Transport, Building and Housing This includes membership in WG12 on
Biomechanics as well as WG 22 on Virtual testing. He currently participates in several research
programmes in Europe: Improvement of vehicle crash compatibility (VC-COMPAT), Safety Advisory Committee (SARAC2) and also represents the BASt in the GIDAS Steering Committee and in the ISO
TC22 SC10 SC12-WG 4 – Virtual testing. His background is essentially physics, statistics and accident
reconstructions.
